Estimating cation exchange capacity and clay content from agricultural soil testing data

چکیده

Clay content and the ability to reversibly retain cations affect many essential chemical physical properties of soil, such as pH buffering carbon sequestration. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) base saturation are also commonly used criteria in soil classification. However, determination CEC particle-size distribution is laborious not included routine testing. In this study, pedotransfer functions including test (STCat; Ca2+ + Mg2+ K+), organic (SOC, %) explanatory variables were developed for estimating CEC, titratable acidity (TA; H+ Al3+) clay (clay, %). addition, reference values potential its components determined Finnish mineral soils. The mean extracted by 1 M ammonium acetate at 7.0 ranged from 14 (range 6.4−25) coarse soils 33 (21−45) cmol(+) kg-1 heavy soils, 42 (24−82) mull 77 (25−138) peat average SOC 27 160 kg-1, respectively. Titratable occupied 53% around 40% sites respectively, evidencing that it a prominent component these predominantly acidic STCat, explained 96% variation CEC. STCat can be especially containing over 30% clay. textured contrast, hampers based estimation content.

effect of grouping soils based on their organic carbon and clay content on performance of hierarchical pedotransfer functions of soil cation exchange capacity

cation exchange capacity (cec) is one of the main factors in monitoring and management of soil quality in order to achieve sustainable production. although cec can be measured directly, these measurements are difficult, time-consuming and costly, especially for aridisols. one alternative method is the use of pedotransfer functions (ptf), in which cec of soils is estimated through available soil...

Predicting cation exchange capacity from hygroscopic moisture in agricultural soils of Western Europe

Soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) depends on the extent and negative charge density of surfaces of soil mineral and organic components. Soil water sorption also depends on the extent of such surfaces, giving thus way to significant relationships between CEC and hygroscopic moisture (HM) in many soils. In this work, we explored whether CEC could be accurately predicted from HM in agricultural ...

Measuring the cation exchange capacity (CEC) as one of the most important chemical soil properties is very time consuming and costly. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) provide an alternative to direct measurement by estimating CEC. The objective of this study was to develop PTFs for predicting CEC of Guilan province soils using artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple-linear regression method a...
